Five Things Friday: Crossfit and more Amazon things

by ~jenniferlynn on March 6, 2014

in CrossFit, Me

Geez, it’s a week into March already? It’s hard to tell, since we have been continuing to live in the Polar Vortex in Detroit and the thought of anything above 30′ seems like it would feel like summertime! Another week gone by, and not too much new and exciting has been going on over here in my world.. but here goes!

Gain ALL the Weight

I was scrolling through my old iPhone photos to look for a “Throwback Thursday” picture to post yesterday. I always love looking at other people’s pictures, especially when you can tell how far they have come along on their fitness journey, or just fun pics from childhood. While doing so, I came across a picture of me jumproping in my backyard about a year and a half ago. I compared it side to side to my experience with my recent Crossfit Games Open workout. Funny how gaining 20lbs can really change perception!

Imma “No-Rep” You

I am officially a certified Crossfit Judge! After paying my $10 fee and taking a pretty tough quiz, I can now officially sign off on workouts for athletes for the Open workouts. I still struggle counting my own reps so not really sure how confident I am in judging anyone that actually is planning on advancing to any sport of level, BUT, now I at least know what standards to look for in each movement!

Amazon Prime.. STOP.

I am going on three weeks now of giving my UPS guy job security, and I really think it’s time to disconnect the one-click ordering. Do I really need a pressure cooker?? I mean, I already make amazing things in the kitchen, how much more awesome can they get? BUT.. this one happened to have an Amazon special (if you click the second model number that ends in AMZ), and it was an additional $15 off (I think the coupon expired?), but still, way cheaper than anywhere else online.

pressure cookerMore than Weight Gainz

I have been feeling awesome when it comes to strength-related things in the gym (nevermind anything endurance-focused.. bleh)! This week, I ended up PRing my x5 deadlift at 215# and was able to string 3 strict pull-ups in a row! I credit Eat to Perform for a lot of my recent progress. It’s funny when you shift the focus to fueling for performance, how much better the performance is!

Single and Sweaty

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve promoted my podcast that I started with Alex of Distance Obsessed, so I’ll plug it yet again! If you haven’t heard about it by now, it’s pretty much an hour of banter back and forth between him and his Canadian accent and me in my apparent midwestern accent, both living very sweaty and very single lives. Alex is a Canadian, vegan, ultra-marathoner, so we are quite opposite, but we have a blast chatting and sharing the real life struggles of being single and sweaty. We are now up to 5 episodes, so go on and catch up on our website or download them from iTunes! Plus, if you will be in the Detroit area on March 15-16, we are doing a meetup the night before the Kona St. Patty’s Day 10k! Oh yeah.. and I’m running a 10k next week. And I have not run.. since November..

Your turn..
What is the biggest physical change you have noticed since you started working out?
Do you have a tasty pressure cooker recipe?
Any recent PRs?
Do you listen to any podcasts? Have you listened to mine?

I loveeeeee your #TBT picture! I have gained some weight since going hardcore with CrossFit and thinking about eating food as fueling my body! I feel awesome! Most of it I’m sure is just muscle! You look friggen awesome!

I’m going to listen to your podcast on my way to a blend coffee meet-up today! (: I know I’ll be listening more often when I can finally run outside again!

I love Amazon too! It’s scary how easy it is to buy stuff on there. You are doing great. I have yet to be able to do one pull up let alone several in a row. The biggest physical change that I noticed is in how my clothes fit. I am loving that!

I am right now sitting here watching my husband try to figure out how to mount his Amazon Prime purchase – a TV bigger than our patio. OMG. You created a monster telling me about AP LOL

SO COOL re the Judging!

Funny re pressure cooker. Wonder if I can get that deal too – ? My husband (being European) basically has a billion pressure cooker recipes, because that’s “how the cook” over there. I mean, we’re talking a LOT of recipes. His pressure cooker – which is the most ancient thing you’ve ever seen – gave up the ghost about a year ago. I wonder if I were to tell him that on his precious Amazon Prime (Laugh) he could research one (dot dot dot)….though I’m quite taken with the idea of having a sous vide. Do you have one?
