Happy Friday!!
If you missed my last “Five Things Friday,” you can go back and check out my recent additions to my life via the means of Amazon Prime and their one-click ordering.. I will tell you the addiction did not stop there and I may or may not have had two or three more boxes show up at my door this week of unrelated things that I probably don’t need but it was too easy to order. Like cocoa butter with jojoba and digestive enzymes.
But without a full five new products to talk about this week, let’s talk about five pieces of randomness going on right now.
Back That Thang Up!
You know how they warn you to ALWAYS back up your iPhone prior to any updates? Well, listen to them. While installing the latest security update for my phone, my phone took a dump. And the last time it was updated was oh, October. So four months of selfies, and pictures of food, and countless pictures of my puppy dog lost and gone forever.. (well, except the last 1000 pics I suppose that went into my Photo Stream). Still. Sadness.
This also made me realize how freaking addicted I am to my phone. I panicked when it was past 11:00 at night and all I wanted to do was sleep but I couldn’t go to bed without knowing that my phone was going to be okay. How would I wake up on time without my Sleep Cycle app? What if there was an emergency and no way for my Mom to contact me? What if it was my turn in Words with Friends and I couldn’t take it? How could I check my work email right when I wake up to make sure there is no drama before I get in? What if I have a million senseless snapchats waiting for me? How could I do my morning ritual of catching up on all things social media?
Yes, I am sure I need some sort of 12-step recovery program.
Crossfit Games Open
Crossfit Games Open is upon us!!! WHOO!!!! If you are unfamiliar with what this is, basically the Crossfit Games are like the SuperBowl of Crossfit. Except anyone and everyone has an opportunity to compete. This week, and for the next four Thursday nights at 8:00EST one workout is released. EVERYONE that registered (I’m talking newbie to elite) has a chance to do the workout and submit their score online by Monday evening.
The top people from each region advance to “Regionals,” and the top people from Regionals make to The Games. I blogged about all of my workouts last year and will plan on doing this same this year for anyone else competing to look out for. It is the biggest social event of the year! And in what other sport can you do the same workout as the most elite and fittest athletes in the world and see how you rank in comparison? Crossfit Lisbeth puts it in a great perspective, that it is the “party we all get to crash.. The Open is like being in Yankee Stadium, but all of us get to run the bases, and the fastest cats get to play in the game. The music is loud, the crowd is cheering, but you can only hear the beating of your own heart, and you can only feel the heaving of your chest as you breathe in and out.”
Last year the Open is what made me make the mental switch from “I do Crossfit” to “I’m a Crossfitter.” It’s more than a workout. It is a community, a family, a “religion” of sorts.
You can keep up with my scores on the leaderboard!
Polar Vortex
I hate the polar vortex. And potholes. And snow beyond Christmastime. The low last night at -7’F. In the 10-day forecast there is no sign of it reaching above freezing.
Stair Climb
Ah.. Sunday morning I will be trekking up 70 flights on the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit to help raise awareness and funds for the American Lung Association. I did the Fight for Air Stair Climb last year and while I have done less than zero training for this event other than my typical Crossfitting, I still have a reasonable expectation to beat my score from last year. I feel I am in a bit of overall better shape than I was then, but we shall see!
On the YouTube
Remember when I wrote about Beastette wrist wraps oh so long ago? Val of Beastette Apparel has made me famous and used my instructional video on her website! Be sure to check it out and also pick yourself up a pair of super cute wraps while you are there!
In other news on the YouTube.. I put up a couple of videos of some skills that I have been working on. I am getting oh, so close to doing ring dips without a band, but for now I am using the 1/4″ one. I know, it’s probably mostly mental at this point. You can check out my videos I posted of ring dips, pull-ups, or pistols (love!).
~
Your turn..
Could you function for a day without your phone? How about an hour?
What’s your biggest “guilty pleasure” app?
Are you competing in the Open?
Is winter ever ending wherever you are at?
Do you ever record your workouts?

I lost all my notes with progress stats and fav workouts, hiking location notes- every note I made on my iphone since Jan 2012 plus all the photos I had from 5 months that I did send to Shutterfly when I upgraded my phone. It was a little disappointing.
Oh no!! 🙁

Gahhhh I HATE when something happens to my phone!
Winter will never, ever, end. I think. It better end by April 18, 2015. If I walk down the aisle in snow …
*sigh*.
