Lady Lifter Spotlight: Gabby of Gabby’s Gluten Free

in Lady Lifter Spotlight

I think just about anyone in the health and fitness blogging world has someone who they look up, whether it be for food inspiration, workout ideas, or just general aweseomeness. Over the past few months, I have developed an increasing girl-crush on one particular blogger. I credit her for a lot of my recent changes in mentality, like becoming more comfortable with eating for performance over strict health or aesthetics, that it is okay to not follow the paleo bible 24/7, and that sometimes you just need to eat the Reese’s cup.

I strongly urge you to follow her blog and check out her on other social media sites. She continues to inspire me and hopefully can inspire you, too!

What types physical activity do you enjoy?

Lifting everything and anything! I train and compete in Strong(wo)man currently.

How did you get started in weight lifting? How long have you been lifting?

I got started lifting on my own after I fractured my foot and could no longer run. After that, I went to Crossfit on a whim with a friend and was instantly hooked. I did Crossfit for about 1 year and then switched to our gym’s strength program. I competed in my first Strong(wo)man contest in September, took a break in Strong(wo)man training after that and went back to mostly olympic weightlifting, then competed again and have been training consistently ever since.  I’ve been “seriously” lifting for about 1 1/2 years (Crossfit + current stuff).

Favorite workout or lift?

I love all moving events for Strong(wo)man – yoke, farmers walk, etc. and I love atlas stones.  I also love squatting!

Current lifting-related goal:

300# Deadlift from the floor, 200# atlas stone load, 350# deadlift from 18 inches, 400# yoke, 250# back squat

Piece of advice for new lifters or those reluctant to try:

TRY IT! And more importantly, find something you love. Don’t love running? You don’t have to do it! Don’t love powerlifting? Cool, try something else. You should enjoy whatever you do – keep it fun! Also, trying lifting or any strength sports for the first time is very intimidating, but I promise, you’ll be alright. Find a good support system – a training partner, gym, virtual support system, whatever works for you. Support is critical.
