How did you get started in weight lifting? How long have you been lifting?
Crossfit was my gateway to weight lifting! I began my Crossfit journey in 2010.
Favorite workout or lift?
Clean and jerk! I love the 2-part complexity of this lift. And I’ll be honest, coming from a dance background I feel like the jerk is a dance move. It’s showy and jazz-hand-y with a barbell. I’m fairly certain I’m the only person who shares this sentiment about the clean and jerk.
Current lifting-related goal:
My current snatch weight is 100lbs. I want that number to keep increasing. Even if it’s 5lbs at a time.
Piece of advice for new lifters or those reluctant to try:
Stick with it! I’ve been doing Crossfit for years and I was a late-bloomer in terms of loving the weight-lifting component of this sport. Do not feel pressured to increase weight until you feel comfortable. Work with a coach you love, respect, and makes safety a priority. Above all (and my overall outlook on life), if it’s not fun, don’t do it.

Your comment about the jazz hands cracked me up! When I was learning clean and jerks with my trainer at the gym we started saying “superstar!” after I would get the bar up. Felt very much like a dance move!
