Have you ever started to follow a blog and you end up loving every thing she posts and no matter what, puts a smile on your face? This is how I feel about this week’s spotlight. Just a baby at 21, yet so mature for her age, Marissa is one of my favorite Crossfit bloggers, writing about her experiences with Crossfit and running.. and she is just so dang cute! (Oh! How did you get started in weight lifting? How long have you been lifting?
Growing up I always wondered why I wasn’t a fast runner (and to this day I can say that I’m STILL not a fast runner, even after lots of practice). After having done competitive cheerleading and gymnastics all of my life, freshman year of college I NEEDED something to do to keep me active. So in 2010, I picked up some weights… and who would’ve thought, I was naturally pretty strong! This confidence booster drove me to continue lifting, and eventually I joined CrossFit in May 2013…. And it’s safe to say I’m in love.
Favorite workout or lift?
Definitely the clean and jerk 🙂
Current lifting-related goal:
1.5x body weight squat!! Or over 200# deadlift. How about both? 🙂
Piece of advice for new lifters or those reluctant to try:
Focus on your strength. If you focus on improving your lifts, your body composition WILL change. Focusing solely on losing weight or how your body looks is a great way to get frustrated. You CAN control the effort your put into your lifts, thus controlling how strong you can get. You CAN’T control how fast your body will react to it. Focus on what you can change and I promise you will be more content 🙂
Random Facts about Marissa:
- I just completed my first CrossFit competition and I’ve caught the comp bug… I’m itching to get back out there!
- My favorite song to WOD to right now? Wake me up by Aviici or Roar by Katy Perry.
- I can’t workout without a headband. I. Just. Can’t.
