I was just talking on one of my recent podcast episodes about a question that came up on OKCupid about if there is an obligation for women to shave their legs. I answered no, because honestly, I consider it a chore and oftentimes don’t even bother. And a guy should love me for me, untamed legs and all.. right?!. Besides, in reality, how many women actually shave their legs everyday? If you are one of those, I have no idea how you have the energy or time to do it.
However, even though I am less concerned about my legs being fully shaven everyday, one thing I cannot stand is hair, or even stubble, under my armpits. Other than during a warm-up where I may be wearing a sweatshirt or long sleeves, I only workout in tank tops, fully exposing my armpits to the world. Just think of all the movements we do at Crossfit that the pits are screaming, “Hey! Look at me!”
But despite it being an almost unconscious habit to shave them in the shower, sometimes it doesn’t happen. The shaving. Or okay, sometimes the shower doesn’t happen either.. (YOU GUYS, I am single. No one is smelling me but my dog). Or there are those times that you do end up showering and making the conscious effort to shave, yet always get that one weird hair or two that for some reason grows at a rate three times as fast as the rest of them.. why is that?!
My gym bag already is full of other Crossfit essentials like my jump rope, wrist wraps, and spare change of clothes, so toting around a razor all of the time is just another thing to take up space. Besides, I think I have a pretty close relationship with the girls at the gym that we stopped judging each other for missing a spot while shaving. However, I was still excited to hear that Gillette Venus came out with a new “snap” razor, which eliminates the need for a full-size razor on the go.
I have always been a big fan of Venus razors and this nifty little gem is something I would recommend for a girl on the go. The little clamshell holder, along with the small handle makes it a perfect accessory to throw in your purse or gym bag. You never know when you will need to make an emergency “pit-stop”.. ha.. ha..
Aside from it coming in a cute compact case and an easy to grip handle, the Venus snap razor uses the “Embrace” refills which have five blades, ensuring the closest shave. The blades are also universal so can be used with the “snap” razor as well as the full-size razor. As someone who bares her arms often, I am quite pleased with my new razor and think it will remain a staple in my gym bag for quite some time!
Your turn..
Do you shave your legs everyday?
Do you think women have an obligation to shave?
Can you tolerate hairy armpits?
Do you prefer to workout in tanks or tees?

I’ll admit that I am an OCD leg-shaver. I can’t shower without shaving my entire legs–it’s kindof annoying but I just don’t feel clean unless I can be totally smooth.
and I’m with you on the armpits thing–if I don’t have time for a whole shower, I’ll at least do the pits 😉 lol
I want to grab one of those little razors for traveling!

OMG…no…especially in the winter time I will go weeks. As a former swimmer, we would go from late August until late October without shaving our legs (yes, I went to Homecoming, in a dress with hairy legs…oh the horror!). We’d shave right before the big conference meet. I HATE shaving my legs and wouldn’t do it every day, even if I had time. However, I am with you on the under arms. The problem with shaving them everyday is they are so sensitive. So, I decided to say good-bye on a more permanent basis!
HOW cute is that razor….and why didn’t WE come up with it LOL). First of all though, WHAT a GREAT shower, where is that? I’m jealous 😉
I have to admit I have been one of those “go ahead, hate me” girls all my life as regards leg hair. Mine is so fine, and so “few and far between,” that I can go for months without shaving and no one knows. Okay, ~I~ know when I do something like yoga, lie down on my leg, and there is a 2 inch blonde hair staring at me (just kidding…well…sort of) – but otherwise, I am blessed on that one, and I know it. I have only ever shaved my calves, because I literally have NO hair on my thighs. Yes, except one big fat black one that comes out of a mole on my upper thigh, but for HIM, I pluck. (yes, that hair is a him. How anthropomorphic of me.)
As for underarm hair, I get waxed, because now that I’m post menopause, the hair just doesn’t really grow back. It’s weird and a little disheartening that a bikini wax plus underarm wax lasts for like a month (but then, now I need to wax my upper lip because, though blonde, I have what to my generally un-hairy body is a mustache. WHAT UP, hormones???) I used to have fairly thick, dark hair under my arms (and in “netherland”), but not any more. So now, since it grows back super sparse (and blonde) I’ve found myself being a lot more cavalier about it. Then again, I generally work out in a Tshirt and board shorts – if I were in a tank more, I’d probably shave all 10 hairs under there a bit more often.

My legs get shaved once a week. I can’t take anymore. I hate the hair in my pits so much that I’m doing laser hair removal. Crossing my fingers that I won’t have anymore pit hair in a few months!

Ooh, good luck with the laser hair removal! Sounds divine!
I’m also an OCD leg shaver! Stubble makes me kinda crazy!

Let me first say that I was blessed with light arm, leg, etc. hair. It also grows very slowly. So I only shave once a week during summer & maybe once a month during winter. But I also sometimes skip the after workout shower. No shame!!!

Do you shave your legs everyday? No. I’m seasonal.
Do you think women have an obligation to shave? It’s the popular choice. I think it is subjective. Fine blonde hair is different than coarse dark hair… neither women are facing a level playing field.
Can you tolerate hairy armpits? Yes, but trimmed short, not wild & crazy.
Do you prefer to workout in tanks or tees? Tee’s
