I recently wrote about how Crossfit is dangerous because of the athletes themselves, but also how I experienced my own struggle injuring myself right around Thanksgiving. It led me to take a step back on my training and realize that I don’t *have* to push for PRs every time I workout. Everything is about progress, and proper programming. Yes, you want to push yourself and yes, sometimes you need to fail to get stronger, but if the goal is to become a better athlete, you also need to learn to train smarter and use techniques outside of the gym such as taking time to stretch and mobilize.
But what about those times you are facing soreness or injuries even when you have stretched and mobilized properly?
Right around the time of my half marathon, Ashley over at Ouch! Wraps sent me her “Wrecked Ouch Wrap,” one of a number of styles in the Ouch Wrap collection along with Destroyed, Humbled, and Broken (how cute are these names!?). Ashley, a crossfitter, half-marathoner, and the fabricator behind Ouch Wraps, started hand-crafting these versatile ice/heat packs for members of her box, but soon realized there is a bigger market for them outside of the walls of her gym. Conveniently (meh), I had a grand opportunity to get some extra use out of mine doing some injury rehab on my wrists.
Made out of quality fabric, filled with rice, and your choice of mild fragrance, you can toss them in the freezer for a couple of hours to use it as an ice pack, or nuke it in the microwave for a quick heat pad. And because it is made from a soft outer material with a such loose filling, it can be shaped to cover most any body part for any type of discomfort.
Since I do not own a microwave, I ran the idea of throwing my Ouch Wrap in the oven by Ashley. While she never had an opportunity to test it herself, she suggested “cooking” it at 375′ for 25 minutes, and offered to send me another one if I ended up burning it. I was nervous and checked it probably about every two minutes, but it worked perfectly!
I have been using my Ouch Wrap to help nurse my wrists when they are sore, but also have found it to be very comforting during that special time of the month to either put on your stomach or lower back. The Wrecked size is perfect for this and I typically leave it on until it cools down completely.
I am sure by now you are already thinking of how you would use your Ouch Wrap if you had one, but if you are not sure, check out the handy “Which Wrap?” section on their site to figure out what one would best suit you. To help get the word out, Ouch Wraps wants to send one of my lucky readers his or her own! Check out all of the options on the Ouch Wraps shop, be sure to give them a quick “like” on Facebook and follow on Twitter, then enter the Rafflecopter below (US residents only, please)!

I use ice when i know I am having inflammation and heat when I’m sore and just need to help my muscles relax. Always ice until numb and then take a 15 minute break before you do it again. That’s a pretty effective recipe 🙂
And I’m a shortcut girl. If it’s made for the microwave, it’s going in the microwave! Haha!
I love me some “cake in a mug”!!!

I use ice and heat depending on the injury. I recover by resting, it’s hard but it works.

I’d pick the Wrecked wrap for headaches or the Broken wrap for everywhere else! These are so cute.

The broken wrap looks great. I always get so sore in my back after deadlifting, and this looks like the perfect way to heal.
Oh man I’d pick either the Broken or Humbled for my knee. I’ve had a few surgeries so always ice it after a long run or strenuous workout.
I am actually one of the pain givers. I am a personal trainer but you know that means I have to be more in shape than all my clients so my workouts are brutal plus when your coworker is working you out you certainly don’t want to whimp out :). Right now I’m having so awful knots in my legs and I know your destroyed wrap could help me out and help me bring more pain to my clients 🙂 in a good way of course.
If this was open to those in Australia I’d enter for sure as it is so timely with my wrist right now being injured.
I tend to use more ice packs than anything but have used heat packs in the past.

The Broken Ouch Wrap would be great when I’m fighting back pain. I think our mattress is old enough it gives me back pain a lot.
