Since I do not do a lot of races, I feel like each event is an opportunity for me to get “dolled up.” I love wearing running skirts (see tutu in the Shamrock ‘n Roll; and C9 skirts in the Corktown race and Turkey Trot; so when I came across a local company that specializes in sparkly skirts, I knew I had to have one!
Rock City Skirts was started by someone who, like me, struggled with running, and used the novelty of getting dressed up as a way to make the experiences more fun and entertaining. The original idea stemmed when the founder, Amy, was training for the Chicago Marathon as part of the Team World Vision team. She rocked her homemade skirt and had such positive feedback from friends who wanted their own, so she turned it into a fundraising effort. Since then, for every skirt sold, $1 donation is made to Team World Vision.
Rock City Skirt’s mission is to:
“..help you make running sassy, silly, flashy and full of fun!”
And who doesn’t feel sassy and flashy in a skirt? I had no idea what color I wanted to wear for my 10k, but decided on the Pompous Purple since I figured it would be most versatile. Since I wear purple everything. 🙂
I received my skirt right on time for my 10k and of course, tried it on right away. And if you didn’t see it on instagram, you can see I turned into an instant ballerina.
One thing that Amy does mention clearly on her site is, “These skirts do not include under shorts. Be sure to wear your favorite spandex or booty shorts under.” This is important. 🙂
Aside from keeping your bits covered in you bend over, the skirts are also a somewhat scratchy material with the sequins, so it’s best to use them for show and for fun; and not as a part of your daily wardrobe.
I ordered a size small based on the size chart on the site, and it fit snugly around my waist. They recommend following your dress size, but what is not considered is the size of your booty (many of you distance runners may not have this problem).. but I almost think a medium would have fit better, but it still looked good (provided I didn’t bend over ;))!
And just as the last skirt review I read, these skirts make you PR! 😉
Rock City Skirts sell for $25, with custom-made skirts only $5 more; shipping is only $2.50; if you are a Michigan local, you can pick it up directly in Rochester! For those of you who are feeling lucky.. you can also enter here to win your own!

would love to try a running skirt…..maybe pink…
I LOVE these skirts! I have the cotton candy, so I would probably get purple or maybe the red, white, & blue!

I would choose pompous purple or USA skirt. Although I could see wearing all of them.
I love the Cotton Candy and Cinderella skirts, so I’d choose one of them. I would lovelovelove to wear it to run in a Disney half marathon, but I’m not quite up to that level… YET! In the meantime, I’d wear it for a local 10K in September. 🙂
Oooh, that purple is really pretty!!
I love red, white and blue one. Running MCM for Team Fisher House to support our military and think it would look great!

I would get the same purple you have and wear it at my next 10k – Queens.
I am torn between the pink, purple, and aqua funk. I seem to change my mind every time I look at their site!
I would love the cotton candy pink skirt. I would love to wear it during one of my many races this summer. I am sure it would make the photos look cute 🙂
I would love to rock the same pompous purple skirt you tried!!! Love it! I would wear it to the Richmond marathon in Richmond, VA in November this year!!!
I would get the Pretty in Pink for my Women Rock half marathon 🙂
I’d pick that same purple one because (a) I’m a Clemson fan, and (b) it matches my compression socks.

If I won this giveaway, I would choose the Sublime Running skirt. It would be perfect for the Alien themed half marathon I am running in August. I will be 23 weeks prego. It’s an evening race and is supposed to be lots of fun!! 🙂

Well, my favorite is and will always be the Miss USA, since I came up with the color combo, the name, and I own the first one ever made. But Aqua Funk would be my next choice, since I wear a lot of teal.
I too had the riding up issue on one of her two-tier skirts. Miss USA and the other three-tier skirts eliminate that problem entirely.
Love Rock City Skirts! I’m glad to see a lot more blog giveaways for them now!

I would love the lucky girl green skirt and would wear it to my 7 miler coming up at the end of July. It’s a tough course that starts with a big hill. This will be my second year running this one, but I’ll look way cuter running it if I get to rock one of these skirts!
I’d love to win one of these skirts! I think I would choose the Miss USA or Blue By You so go with my wonder chik jersey from Tough Chik!
Think it would be weird to rock a sparkly skirt on deadlift days?!?!
Obviously I would wear shorts under…HA!
